We’re back to the domestic scene this week with the big kick off in the Football League and then the Community Shield at Wembley. As ever, that means we have put together three multiples of increasing odds to satisfy your betting urge for the weekend, no matter what level of risk you are comfortable with. Here’s to a successful start to the new season.
Easy Winner – 21/20 (BetVictor)
- Over 1.5 goals in Leicester v Manchester United (4/11) – Six of the last seven Community Shields have included at least two goals and that is a trend which looks set to continue on Sunday. There are goals in both Leicester and Manchester United so two goals looks like the minimum.
- QPR to score against Leeds (1/4) – Leeds had their defensive worries last season and although Garry Monk will have a big impact at the club, those improvements are likely to be in attack rather than defence. So, QPR should be able to score even if a win will be tough.
- Nottingham Forest/Draw double chance against Burton Albion (1/4) – Burton Albion will have to fight hard this season to stay up in the Championship. They’ve got a very tricky looking opening match against Nottingham Forest should be able to avoid defeat at the very least.
Medium Risk – 8/1 (Sky Bet)
- Over 2.5 goals in Fulham v Newcastle (5/6) – This is a great way to open the season. Fulham have struggled with life in the Championship ever since being relegated but they will want to make life as difficult as possible for Newcastle who have been heavily tipped to win the title.
- Huddersfield to beat Brentford (5/4) – Brentford have been tipped to struggle this season and in their first match they take on a Huddersfield side who could be dark horses. This could be a tough night for the west Londoners.
- Sheffield Wednesday to beat Aston Villa (6/5) – Last season ended in upset for both these teams. However, Sheffield Wednesday at least had a good time of it for most of the year and they’ve got a great chance to beat an Aston Villa side who did little else than lose all of last year.
Long Shot – 60/1 (Bet365)
- Newcastle to beat Fulham and both teams to score (3/1) – Newcastle are the favourites to win the Championship this season and can get off to a winning start on Friday night against Fulham. However, they may have to score more than once to get the win as Fulham are more than capable of scoring.
- Brighton to beat Derby (14/5) – Derby are once again looking to a new manager to get them promoted to the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether Nigel Pearson will succeed and he may get off to the worst possible start against Chris Hughton’s talented Brighton side.
- Manchester United to beat Leicester and both teams to score (3/1) – The traditional curtain raiser to the English season tends to see a number of goals scored and that trend could continue at Wembley even if Leicester will do very well to avoid defeat inside 90 minutes.
