Goals Galore Explained
Goals Galore was the great new bet invented by Betfred a few years ago and the market that really started the craze for betting on both teams to score. With Goals Galore you simply pick matches where you think both teams will score from Betfred’s Goals Galore coupon or their bonus list, the latter of which pays out at higher odds but contains games where both teams are deemed less likely to score.
The minimum bet is a treble, which pays out at 3/1 for games on the Long List and 9/2 for matches from the Bonus List. Pick four games and those odds go up to 11/2 and 9/1, right the way up to 15 matches for crazy odds of 1350/1 and 5000/1 respectively.
With Goals Galore you are simply picking matches where you think both teams will end the game with at least one goal and you can only select games from the specific coupons. Also, as said, there is a minimum of three games. Note that with some other bookies you have more both teams to score options including a wider choice of games, the option place singles and upwards and, with some, the option to bet on either both teams to score or both teams NOT to score (that is, one of the two failing to score during the match).
The latter isn’t fun to watch because whenever either side attack your bet is in danger, which is perhaps why it’s not quite as popular and not offered by Betfred on Goals Galore. Goals Galore is great for people looking to win big from a small stake who enjoy betting on BTTS and like to keep things really simple. Having all the games on a single coupon makes navigation easy and you always know exactly where you stand and what odds you will be getting. Because it is trebles and upwards, the returns can be huge with minimum returns of 3/1, but much more if you pick more selections.
However, in the interests of balance we have to point out that there are several advantages of using the standard BTTS markets of other bookies. The most obvious one is that you have more choice, both in what games to bet on and in that you can bet against both teams registering, and also that you can bet on singles and doubles as well as larger accumulators.
You may also find, especially if you are backing outsiders, that, despite Betfred’s claims that Goals Galore odds are enhanced, the odds at other bookies may well be better. As an example, if you placed a treble at a standard bookie and each game had odds of 4/5 (1.80) in decimal odds, this would return at odds of 4.83/1. If those three teams were on Betfred’s standard Goals Galore Long List you would get odds of just 3/1, whilst even on the bonus coupon you would only get 9/2 (4.5/1). That said, if you bet on favourites at very low odds you will sometimes find that Goals Galore does indeed offer higher odds than many other online bookies.
Goals Galore Tips and Strategy
If you’re looking for advice on how to pick games where both teams will score, check out our main both teams to score article. Here we offer up some advice specific to Goals Galore.
One key question is how many games to go for. If you are chasing a huge payout you have to accept your bet is more of a lottery and should be entered into very much in the spirit of fun. Even if you go for huge favourites, your chances of nailing 15 matches are slim and you should be aware of that – although with possible returns of £5,000 for a £1 stake, perhaps it’s worth a go!
If you’re doing this with the main aim of making profit on a regular basis then we would advise sticking to three or four games, with pro gamblers rarely – if ever – venturing beyond doubles and trebles.
The other big question is whether to go for the Long List or the Bonus option and this again depends on your approach to risk. If you’re going after that big payout then the Bonus list is great, but only if there are games on there that you think are badly priced by the bookies.
The other thing to note, as alluded to previously, is that Goals Galore offers better value when you are backing favourites. Because the odds are fixed you will receive better value if you select games where the bookies think both teams scoring is very likely. Normally you might go for an outsider at evens or even higher but because the effective payout on Goals Galore is well below that there is nothing gained from adding this type of match to your coupon.
Our final piece of Goals Galore advice is to always consider hedging your bets if you have landed several bets towards a big acca. If you have just one or two results to come in to land a very big payday, locking in a certain profit by betting against both teams to score with a different bookie could be a wise move. Of course, this will reduce your overall profit but at least you’ll be guaranteed something. We wouldn’t recommend this with the smaller accumulators but if you were lucky enough to hit six or seven out of eight or upwards it’s definitely worth considering.
